Te Araroa Day 17, Pakiri to somewhere north of Puhoi

Starting km: 479
Finishing km: 516
km covered today: 37

After a day of rest, it took a few hours to get back into the whole walking business.  The morning's climb up and down the ridge behind Pakiri felt like hard work even though it never took me above 500m.  There was to be no more flat beach walking, with the whole day spent going up or down hills through native bush and later a bit of road and pine plantation.

The view towards Omaha and Matakana after the first climb of the day.

This is by no means exceptional (many of the sections of the trail walked up til here were similar) but this is just a moment when I remembered to take a photo of just how covered in tree roots a lot of the track can be

A photo taken for Sarah of one of the nine Metservice weather radars in the country.  This one was really in the middle of nowhere, with no road access and a helicopter landing pad a few hundred metres walk away!

I've forgotten which tree this flower comes from.  Can anyone remind me?

I ended the day camping beside (but well off) a forestry road in a pine plantation
